Most “racing simulators” in Tokyo are a console and a plastic wheel in a shopping centre. This one is the rig racing drivers train on: a 12 Nm direct-drive wheelbase that fights back when the front tyres let go, active pedals that push against your foot under ABS, and three 31.5-inch 240 Hz screens wrapped around you. It sits in a car-culture bar run by an ECU tuning company, which is why it exists at all — we use it ourselves.

Why the numbers matter: consumer belt-drive wheels deliver 2–5 Nm; a 12 Nm direct-drive base is the range racing teams train on. Active pedals are rare in public venues because of cost — ours are the same model used in professional simulators.

How a session works

  1. Walk in, order a drink. Any evening from 17:00. Staff will ask if you have driven a sim before.
  2. Pick a car and a road. First-timers usually take a GT-R on the Shuto Expressway — the same route our night drive uses. Regulars go straight to Suzuka or Fuji.
  3. Two-minute setup. Seat, pedals and wheel force are adjusted for you. The first lap is gentle; after that the rig is yours.
  4. Drive. 10 or 15 minutes. Staff will show you a cleaner line if you want it, or leave you alone if you don’t.

Who it suits

  • Car people on a Tokyo trip who want something real before dinner in Shibuya — this is the no-licence, rain-proof, no-booking option.
  • Couples and small groups: one drives, the others watch the triple screen from the bar with a drink. Swap.
  • Families: kids who reach the pedals can drive; the bar has mocktails and soft drinks. The one hard limit anywhere at mbPIT is under 2 years old.
  • Sim racers who want to try a Simagic / Simucube setup before buying one.

FAQ

Do I need a driving licence?

No. The simulator needs no licence, no experience and no booking. Staff set you up in a minute and the first lap is always a gentle one.

How much does it cost?

¥1,200 for a 10-minute trial or ¥1,800 for a 15-minute full run, plus one drink per driver (drinks from ¥800, mocktails ¥1,200). No table charge. Tax included.

Do I need to book?

No — walk in any evening 17:00–23:30. If you are a group of four or more and want back-to-back sessions, message us on WhatsApp so we can hold the rig.

What can I drive, and where?

Tonight’s GT-R route on the Shuto Expressway, plus Suzuka, Fuji Speedway, Tsukuba and the major world circuits. Cars range from a GT-R R35 to GT3 and formula cars. Tell staff what you want.

Is it a game or a real simulator?

A real one. It is the same class of direct-drive wheel, active pedals and high-refresh triple screen that racing teams use for driver training — see the spec list above. It runs the same physics engines, not an arcade cabinet.

Can kids drive it?

Yes, if they can reach the pedals comfortably — usually from around 130–140 cm. Children are welcome with a parent; the bar serves mocktails and soft drinks.

Is the simulator included in the GT-R night drive?

Yes. Tour guests get a session and a welcome drink before departure at 17:30, and drive tonight’s route on the rig before riding it for real.

Open tonight from 17:00.

2F, Udagawa-cho, Shibuya. Walk in — or message us on WhatsApp to hold the rig for a group.
