What are pops & bangs, anti-lag and afterfire?

Pops & bangs (burbling) are the crackling sounds from the exhaust when you lift off the throttle; anti-lag and afterfire describe unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust, adding visible flames. Why the Aventador’s V12 is perfect for it

Turbocharged cars mask much of their exhaust drama. The Aventador’s 6.5-litre V12 breathes straight through — every crackle and flame comes through raw. On an engine this characterful, afterfire feels less like an add-on and more like the car finally clearing its throat.

How mbFAST creates it — safely

We map the effect to the free play at the top of the throttle pedal, so the crackle and flames appear only on a light blip — never during normal driving. Within that range we adjust ignition timing so unburned fuel burns on the exhaust side as controlled afterfire. It is done entirely through the ECU, with no hardware removal. The exact calibration is our own know-how, dialled in per car so it stays safe and repeatable.

Does it harm the engine?

No. The effect is created through ignition timing within the throttle’s play range, with no hardware removal, and is tuned to be safe and repeatable.
