2022+ GR Supra: The ECU Toyota Locked. The Burble We Unlocked.

If you own a 2022-or-newer A90 Supra, you already know the problem: the ECU is locked. Standard flashing tools can’t read it, can’t unlock it, can’t touch it. Most shops will simply turn you away.

We didn’t. This is Japan’s first pops and bangs build on a bench-locked late-model GR Supra — and here’s how it was done.

The Problem: A Sealed B58

This 2022 A90 came to us for our signature burble treatment — Dragon Afterfire, the flames-on-demand calibration we developed in Tokyo. One catch: on 2022+ models, the ECU carries a special lock. No conventional tool can read or write it. In Japan, nobody had cracked this on a customer car.

The Solution: Bench Unlock, Done Properly

Exactly one company in the world can unlock this ECU — so we pulled the unit (mounted vertically on the right side of the engine bay), and shipped it to them by DHL. International shipping sounds dramatic; in practice it’s 2–3 days each way, and the whole round trip took about 10 days.

Here’s the part most people don’t know: even after the unlock, you can’t simply read the data off the physical ECU. Instead, we obtained the factory-stock calibration directly from the source, built our pops-and-bangs data on top of it, and installed the finished file through the OBD port. From that point on, the car flashes like any other — the hard part only has to happen once.

The Result

The full menu is now open on the late-model Supra: mild burble for daily driving, aggressive pops and bangs, and Dragon Afterfire — all built the mbFAST way — developed in-house, validated across Japan’s largest pops-and-bangs network, and engineered so the soundtrack doesn’t come with an engine-wear tax.

What This Means If You Own a 2022+ Supra

The “your ECU is locked, nothing can be done” answer is obsolete. The unlock is a one-time process; after that, your Supra tunes like any B58. We handle the entire chain — removal, unlock logistics, calibration, OBD install — at our Tokyo HQ or through our nationwide network.
