Does Pops & Bangs put extra load on the engine?
The catalytic converter, which breaks downexhaust gases,takes on additional load. In the worst case it can crack. We carefully tune with stockexhaust gases,cats installed to minimize damage. That said, we cannot guarantee it,so please avoid sustained high-RPM firing.
Will fuel economy worsen?
Standard Pops & Bangs tuning does not enrich the fuel mixture at all,so it will not directly worsen fuel economy.
Is it possible on a car already tuned by another shop or fitted with a sub-computer?
Benefits: Not burning the fuel mixture means a relatively rich state which absorbs engine heat — said to be gentle on the engine.
Drawbacks: The rich mixture can mix with engine oil, diluting it and reducing lubrication of piston rings, increasing friction. Piston wall wear risk. A slightly thicker oil grade may help prevent this. Also, the stock catalytic converter wears faster, so we recommend upgrading the front cat to a metal sport cat or straight pipe.
